Langstone

A fullrigged iron ship built in 1869 by William Pile, Sunderland. Dimensions 186'4"×31'2"×19'6" and tonnage 746 tons. Later reduced to barque rig.

1869 June: Launched at the shipyard of William Pile, Sunderland, for H. Ellis, London. Assigned the official British Reg. Nol 60950.
1872: Owner: H. Ellis, London. Master: W. Turnbul. [LR 1872-73]
1873: Sold to Shaw, Savill & Co., London.
1879 April 2 - July 19: Sailed from London to Auckland in 107 days under command of Captain Fergusson.
1880 May 16 - August 22: Sailed from London to Auckland in 97 days under command of Captain Fergusson.
1882 May 27 - September 8: Sailed from London to Auckland in 103 days under command of Captain Fergusson.
1883 April 23 - August: Sailed from London to Auckland in 101 days under command of Captain Tonkin.
1888 November: While compleating the cargo on the roadstead of Napier, the cargo of wool took fire. The fire was extinguished with the help of steam pumps from the shore after about 400 tons of water had been poured into the hold. Some 160 bales of wool had been destroyed and 1200 damaged at a value of about £ 5000.
